Shortsightedness or Really good marketing

It amazes me how well the corporations can market their trade or prodcut, cover up their short term losses and mistakes but to its even more ironic how we as consumers can never look past our own little benefit. I refer to the recent gas crisis. The energy companies of today know the fate of their global trade is going to die down in 20-30 years. They know their fate, its not every day that a corporation can, with cetainity, say that they are going to close down operations in a specific number of years, but this seems to be the case this time.

But the consumers who are always apalled at the high gas prisec at the pump are happy again as the news headlines tout the decrease of oil prices of about 23 cents. Is it just me or are we all missing the big picture. Should we care that the simple rules of supply and demand dictate that the oil prices are going to be so high in the future that only the rich will be able to afford the cars, its like we are going back in time to the early 1900's.

I think that there are more things here to be thought about than just alternative energy or alternative car fuel technologies, its like we all are the sailors in a boat and have been taken in by the beatiful sirens of the oil companies, but sooner or later we are all going to be paying through our noses.
